When Everything Shifts: On Home, Letting Go, and the Arrow of Change
They say home is where the heart is, but what happens when your heart is in motion?
I’ve just returned from months in Mexico, and nothing feels quite the same. I’m currently in and out of my condo in Toronto, riding the waves of transition as pre-booked Airbnb guests come and go. The space I’ve called home for years, the one I poured so much love and intention into, is now officially listed for sale. And it’s not an easy market.
It wasn’t an easy decision. I love my condo. But I’ve outgrown the area, and if I’m honest, I’ve outgrown parts of who I used to be when I first moved in.
What I’ve come to realize through all this movement, this unmooring, is that home isn’t a place.
It’s a frequency.
It’s a feeling.
It’s the lightness you carry within when you’re not weighed down by things you no longer need.
Living out of a suitcase taught me that. Somewhere between the packing, the letting go, and the reimagining of what comes next, I found freedom, not in accumulation, but in simplicity.
Not to say I’ve given everything up. There are still bins in storage, boxes of memories waiting to be sorted. But I know now that most of it is just stuff. And stuff doesn’t equal stability. In fact, my mind feels clearer, lighter, and more open the less I hold onto.
But here’s what this post is really about,
the moment before the breakthrough.
That strange in between when everything is shifting and nothing feels certain.
The fear.
The dread.
The doubt that creeps in right before a leap.
Let me ask you this:
Have you ever made a big decision? to leave the job, end the relationship, to move away and felt a deep knowing it was right…
only to be flooded with fear the moment after?
Like suddenly your mind starts spinning with what ifs…
What if I regret this?
What if I made a mistake?
What if I don’t land on my feet?
What if it doesn’t work out?
It’s wild, isn’t it? How you can feel so clear…
and then so consumed.
But if you’ve walked through it, you know: those fears rarely come true.
They’re like echoes of your past self, trying to hold on.
And here’s what I’ve come to see again and again,
right before a soul level upshift.
Life pulls us back.
Like an arrow.
The backward pull is not punishment.
It’s not even a test, really.
It’s an invitation.
A quiet challenge from the universe asking:
Are you ready?
Will you trust what you feel, even if you can’t yet see where it’s going?
And when you say YES!
When you move through the fear and do the thing anyway, the world responds.
Doors open that you didn’t know were there.
Opportunities land softly in your lap.
Life expands in ways you couldn’t have planned.
We’re not here to stay the same.
We’re here to evolve.
To grow.
To remember what matters.
If you’ve been feeling stuck,
in your job,
your relationship,
your space,
your own skin!
Maybe that tug you feel isn’t something to fear.
Maybe it’s the start of something extraordinary.
You just have to let yourself be pulled back…
So you can fly forward.
Today, I challenge you to do one thing you’ve been putting off because of fear.
Talk to the person. Apply for the job. Take the course. Book the trip. Sign up for the program 😉. Or simply take yourself out on a date.
Do it today. Step through the door of fear and see how quickly it dissolves.
And if it doesn’t go exactly as planned, you’ll still learn, grow, and evolve from the experience. And isn’t that what life is truly about?
Just like the arrow inked on my arm, a reminder I carry everywhere I go,
Life sometimes pulls us back so it can propel us forward!
If your fear has been keeping you stuck, if you feel like you’ve lost your passion and your light, I would love to walk with you as you rediscover what sets your soul on fire.
