When Coming Home to Yourself Begins to Look Different

A few mornings ago, I was listening to a somatic healing meditation for nervous system regulation, stress relief and releasing physical tension.

As I lay there, something clicked.

Not because the meditation revealed something completely new, but because it helped me see my own healing journey through a different lens.

For as long as I can remember, my body has carried stress.

It first showed up in my neck, shoulders and upper back. During my corporate career, those places became armour. Tight muscles, headaches and tension became so familiar that I stopped questioning them.

In my thirties and early forties, it shifted into episodes of lower back pain. With the support of chiropractors, an osteopath, Reiki and other holistic therapies, I always found my way back to balance.

Then menopause arrived.

For me, it wasn't only the hormonal changes that caught me by surprise. It was the deep aching through my hips and legs. It was the emotional intensity. It was feeling like my nervous system was constantly humming beneath the surface. It was discovering that I no longer felt like the woman I had always known.

Looking back now, I can see that my healing journey had already begun long before that.

As I started reconnecting with myself, Reiki entered my life. Alongside meditation and journaling, it became one of the first practices that helped me slow down, turn inward and begin finding my way back to myself. From there, breathwork, Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique, Biofield Tuning, coaching and mindset work arrived at exactly the right time, each one taking me a little deeper, each one bringing me closer to myself.

Then I read The Body Keeps the Score.

It gave language to something I had already begun to feel, our experiences don't simply disappear because time has passed. Sometimes our bodies continue carrying what our minds believe we've already moved beyond.

As I reflected on my own story, I began wondering how much my body had been holding.

Childhood experiences.

Seventeen years in a demanding corporate career.

The pressure of always performing.

Always achieving.

Always being the one who could handle it.

Leaving that career transformed my life, but I don't think my nervous system realized I'd left.

It was still responding as though the emergency hadn't ended.

As my spiritual practice deepened and I began supporting others through Reiki, astrology and the Akashic Records, I became even more aware of the importance of caring for my own energy.

I'd always believed that healers need healing too.

Throughout my own journey, I'd received support in many different forms. But if I was honest with myself, I probably hadn't received nearly as much as I'd given.

Recently, my somatic healer gently reminded me of something I'd always known.

"Many healers need people to help heal them too."

This time, those words landed differently.

Not because I hadn't heard them before, but because I was finally ready to receive them.

The practices that have supported me so beautifully over the years still do.

I still begin my mornings with self-Reiki.

Meditation continues to ground me.

Journaling helps me process and reflect.

I work with my Healy device, scan my energy each day, and support my body with the hormonal care and supplements that feel right for me.

None of those practices have disappeared.

More recently, I've felt called to explore somatic healing. It hasn't replaced everything that came before it. Rather, it feels like the next invitation on a journey that has been unfolding for years, the same way Reiki, meditation, breathwork and the Akashic Records each arrived exactly when I needed them.

I've realized that healing isn't about finding one practice that carries us forever.

It's about learning to trust when our body is asking for something different.

And now, my body is asking for something different again.

Not because what came before no longer works.

But because healing has taught me to trust the gentle nudges that invite me forward.

Perhaps that's one of the greatest gifts this journey has given me.

Not certainty.

But trust.

I don't believe this lesson is only for healers.

I think it's for anyone who has spent a lifetime being the strong one.

The woman who always puts everyone else first.

The caregiver.

The people pleaser.

The one everyone turns to.

The one who quietly carries more than anyone realizes.

For so many of us, receiving doesn't come naturally.

We've learned how to hold everyone else.

We've become experts at giving.

But somewhere along the way, we forget that we were never meant to carry everything alone.

For so long, I thought coming home to myself meant learning how to heal.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if it also means learning how to receive.

To trust when my body is asking for something new.

To honour what supports me in this chapter of my life, without letting go of everything that brought me here.

Because every practice I've embraced has led me one step closer to myself.

None were mistakes.

None were detours.

They were simply the path.

And perhaps that's what I'm still learning.

Coming home to yourself isn't a destination.

It's a relationship.

One that continues to deepen as we listen, soften and grow.

And maybe, just maybe, in this chapter of my life, coming home to myself is beginning to look like receiving.

And perhaps those two things are one and the same.
